About NMEL

New Media and Extended Learning (NMEL) reports to Dr. Jerónimo C. Dominguez Vice Provost for Extended University. Extended University was established in 1999 to coordinate UNM's distance education programs. Using a variety of delivery formats, including instructional television, internet, correspondence, and on-site delivery, UNM's Extended University brings education to the state of New Mexico. Debby Knotts works closely with the UNM colleges, schools, and academic departments offering online courses. NMEL is responsible for the administration of online courses at UNM and the system-wide implementation and management of UNM's learning management system - WebCT, for Main Campus, Health Sciences Center, Law School, and UNM branch campuses.

NMEL online course administrative support includes: faculty agreements/contracts, scheduling courses, and student support services. This coming year we will continue to be involved in statewide information technology and distance learning initiatives such as the New Mexico Council for Higher Education Computing/Communications Service (CHECS) and New Mexico Virtual College. NMEL Administration provides an array of administrative support for all three NMEL groups: Course Development, Systems, and Web Applications.
